Oh no! R9 390 black screen with no fans turning.
To this day, fans sometimes working, sometimes not. Also, i've noticed that MSI afterburner doesn't detect fans while they're not spinning. Because of that, i've started the thinking about GPU's fan controller. GPU fans are starts working and instantly stops working while under load. Even on 501MHz GPU hit 95 degrees because of that problem. Sapphire R9 280x fans do not spin. Chipset Drivers: updated to latest chipset drivers around 9/28/2020. Background Applications: none that were explicitly installed outside of AMD software. Description of Original Problem: GPU fans will not spin up when running graphically-intensive applications, like streaming multiple Youtube videos.

Anyway to cut the story short, plug my card in, power up pc, Fans spin and lights light up but no display output from any of the connection, DP,DVI & HDMI. I have tried the vide card in another working system also with a good PSU and still the same result. My PC stopped recognizing my R9 280X. It doesn't show up in Windows device manager, and the AMD graphics driver installer does not detect it either. I am currently using the default Windows graphics drivers. Here's what happened: My wifi adapter was acting up. It would disappear from Device Manager and just show up as an unknown device.

Opened the case and the Graphics Card fans are not spinning. Tried reseating the r9 in the PCIe x16 slot, then tried it in the slower PCIe x4 slot with no success. Disconnected and reconnected the power cables to the r9, no success. The integrated graphics are working just fine with the R9 removed, and even with the R9 in situ the PC posted. I also tried switching the gpu from originally PCIE 3.0 x 16 slot to PCIE 2.0X 16 slot. However, it still cannot detect the gpu. All the while, the gpu fans seems to be spinning as per normal. Recently i purchased an old r9 270, i decided to put it in my Dell Optiplex 790. My optiplex has the Dell 500GB hard drive, i5-2400 processor and 8 GB of ram also i have a EVGA 500 watt psu, which should supply enough power to the card. i do not have a monitor that supports HDMI so i had to use my TV for this. so after i hooked everything on i. The fans spin so there is power and it is detected by win7 and GPUZ. The only thing I haven't tried yet is changing my bios setup from uefi to legacy. Anyone got any thoughts or is it back onto Ebay for it as spares Also is there a dual bios switch on this card. I,ve looked all over and cant see one which would be unusual for a 280x. So i bought a new tri x r9 290x from sapphire. I installed it in my computer, pluged in the power connectors and turned on the system. Fans start spinning but i get no signal to my display. However i can use the integrated graphics in my cpu (intel hd 4000) without any problem.

Looked through BIOS and that input is set as default for Graphics Card. Shut it down, unplugged everything, reseated the card, powered back up and still nothing. Yes, the Card is getting power from the PSU. Provide any additional details you wish below. Someone on the IRC suggested it's the CPU. Open the 7970 Mac file in a Hexeditor. At 65536 you will find the EFI part. Copy and paste into your R9 280X at same point, overwriting the UEFI, done. For the Powercolor R9 280X (which works fine in High Sierra on a real MP5,1 the EFI part of the BIOS starts at 65412, not 65536. AND RESET BIOS. NOT DETECTED MY GTX 960 CARD. ALSO I WAS CONNECT ANOTHER EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY TO GTX 960 CARD. BUT NOT DETECTED. Its seems that Problem is i7 2700 Processor that Sandy Bridge. Many people says UEFI Bios with Sandy Bridge Processor having issue like that. They Recommended to Change ivy Bridge Processor.

GPU-Z reports only the power settings, not the GPU temps, clocks etc. I tried to run games(old ones like BF 2 and Skyrim) and they run using the intel 4600 graphics instead of the discrete R9 280X graphics. They don't even detect the R9 280X(they don't give you an option to choose R9 280X. Just intel 4600 graphics.). Sometimes it wouldn't drop back down and stayed at 92-94. I eventually opened the case and voila, one of the two fans on the vga cooler (the fan closer to the back of the case) was not spinning. I gave it a little nudge and it started spinning and in a few minutes temps went back to normal, but it keeps stopping.

I had smoke coming up from a gpu and the gpu fan was happy spining, that gpu was dead before i tested it. leds/fans are not really affected by unstable voltage, unless we are talking about overvoltage that can burn them or undervoltage that will make them not spin at all (had some 12v fans that were spining even at 5v) or not light up at all.

It's possible, fans tend to not have much torque so if something is in the way it won't push past. You may need to remove you gpus cooler but the four main screws on the back to see if there is. I only get a black screen (no UEFI screen and the monitor doesnt even power up) if the R9 280x is connected. However, the GPU fan is operating normally. If I unplug it, everything else works fine via the onboard GPU. Also, the r9 280x doesnt show up anywhere in the device manager. I already updated my BIOS but to no avail. Build: Asrock H87. There are two things to check before you start buying the upgrade material. 1. check your laptop's WLAN slot interface type.. there are 2 kind of interface that could be used as external GPU. the Mini PCIE and the NGFF and expresscard.. the fastest way is to open your laptop, and see the type. or if your laptop has an express card then you don't need to open the laptop. for those who don't.

Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X OK, this is what I tried so far: 1. Used both Dual Link DVI-D and HDMI cables 2. Used different PSU connectors 3. Disabled iGPU in BIOS 4. BIOS setting is set to use PCIE. GPU light turns on but the fans do not spin - 8-pin and 6-pin power connectors to the GPU are on tight - Tried reseating the card and also tried using a different PCI slot - BIOS is the latest. Legacy drivers are not installing either. I have gone through my BIOS multiple times, but there are no options regarding PCIe slots or primary graphics devices. My specs: GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 280X Dual-X CPU: Intel i7 2600 3.40GHz Motherboard: Asus p8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155 RAM 16GB Windows 10 home 64bit PSU: Seasonic 750W.
